Empowering young change-makers

Designed especially for students in the International Baccalaureate Primary Years Programme (IB PYP), this program is an ideal fit for your final-year PYP Exhibition, the collaborative, inquiry-driven capstone project where students take meaningful action on a real-world issue. Working with Techie Australia gives you a genuine cause, a clear framework, and measurable outcomes to present to your school community.

In Australia, many students don't have reliable access to technology at home or at school. This can make it harder for them to complete assignments, explore their interests, or build the digital skills that are now a normal part of everyday life. Techie Australia exists to change that, but we can't do it alone. We rely on people in the community, including students like you, to help us make an impact.

The Junior Ambassador Program gives primary school students practical ways to take action on the digital divide, whether through collecting devices, raising funds, or spreading the word in their community.

Linking to Your PYP Exhibition

The IB PYP Exhibition is the capstone of the International Baccalaureate Primary Years Programme, an in-depth, collaborative project completed in your final year (typically ages 11–12) where you research a real-world issue, take meaningful action, and present your process and outcomes to your school community.

By working with Techie Australia, you can connect your Exhibition to a genuine challenge faced by students every day. Your project won't just explore an idea in theory. It will show how you've turned understanding into action, creating outcomes that make a real difference for others.

1

Show Agency

By focusing on the digital divide, you're tackling a real problem and taking action to help solve it.

2

Connect Globally

Technology access is an issue worldwide; by helping in Australia, you're contributing to a bigger global conversation.

3

Demonstrate Impact

Whether you raise awareness, gather donations, or fundraise, you can show clear evidence of how your work makes a difference.

4

Reflect and Share

You'll have the chance to present your process, explain why you chose this action, and share outcomes with your peers and teachers.

Ways to Get Involved

Tech Drive

Collect unused laptops, tablets, and accessories from your school community, family, or friends. Every device collected can be refurbished and passed on to a student in need.

How to do it

  1. Pick a collection spot (like your classroom, library, or office).
  2. Work with your teacher to spread the word: posters, announcements, or a newsletter item.
  3. Set a time frame (one to two weeks works best).
  4. Arrange to hand the devices over to Techie Australia for refurbishment.

Helping Hands Fundraiser

Raise money to support Techie Australia. It could be a cake stall, a read-a-thon, a raffle, or even a casual clothes day at school. Every dollar helps get donated devices back into working order.

How to do it

  1. Pick a fundraising idea that excites you.
  2. Plan it with your teacher so it's simple, safe, and fun.
  3. Spread the word through posters, announcements, or newsletters.
  4. Donate the funds raised to Techie Australia.

Community Awareness

Spread the word so more people know about the digital divide and how Techie Australia is working to close it. Every conversation, poster, or article can spark someone else to get involved.

How to do it

  1. Choose the best ways to share the message (posters, newsletter articles, presentations, or a school website feature).
  2. Prepare simple, clear information about the digital divide and how Techie Australia helps.
  3. Share your work widely: in class, at assemblies, in newsletters, or online through school channels.
  4. Encourage others to pass the message along to their families and networks.

Next Steps

3

Take action

Carry out your chosen activity—collect devices, raise funds, or spread the word.

4

Share your results

Document what you did (photos, posters, a short write-up) to include in your Exhibition and to inspire others.
