Raising money
Help Us Bridge the Digital Divide
Run by Jason and Amy · closes 30 June
Why we are doing this
We're doing this because we care about people having a fair chance. So much of everyday life relies on things we take for granted, and going without them can make it harder to get ahead or simply stay connected.
For us, this is a way to put that belief into action. We can't fix everything, but we can contribute to something that makes someone's day-to-day life a little easier. That's what makes this worth doing, and why we're asking others to get behind us.
Who is Techie Australia
Techie Australia is a registered charity. People and workplaces give us the laptops, phones and tablets they have finished with. We test them, wipe them to our published data standard, fix what needs fixing, and pass them on through community organisations that already know the people who need one.
Where the money goes
- 01
Sourced
Usually a donated machine. Sometimes we buy one, when nothing suitable has come in.
- 02
Wiped
To our published data standard, before anything else happens to it.
- 03
Fixed
A new battery, a charger, a fresh operating system. Most of the cost sits here.
- 04
Given
Through a community organisation that already knows the person.
Most of the hardware is donated, so your money usually goes on the parts, the testing and the hours. When nothing suitable has come in, it buys the machine outright.
